Project Description:
Umm Al Hyman Sewage Treatment Plant and Effluent Irrigation System: a complete tertiary treatment plant plus 0.36 Sq. Km of spray irrigation fields. The following treatment processes are included: (1) Preliminary treatment facility (headworks) consisting of 3 mechanical bar screens, 3 vortex grit chambers, 3-grit classifiers, screenings and grit conveyors and a carbon odour control system. (2) Secondary treatment units consisting of 4 oxidation ditches, each with 2-112 kw mechanical aerators. (3) Secondary clarifiers: 4 0' 33.5 meter diameter units of plow type with center feed and peripheral discharge & full radius scum skimmer. Bridge mounted sludge scrapers. (4) Effluent sand filters: 12-mono media sand filters, backwash with air, activated on a loss of head or timer basis. (5) Disinfection - dual channel ultraviolet disinfection will be employed for the bacterial disinfection of the main flow stream. Chlorination with one-ton cylinders will also be installed for injection of chlorine to various processes around the plant. (6) Effluent storage and water reuse -one day's storage volume is provided for the treated effluent in under- ground storage basins. An effluent pumping station is provided with the flexibility to deliver the treated effluent to an on-site spray irrigation system or to transfer to Umm Al Hyman where it will be used for greening the community & other infrastructure facilities. (7) Access road, this segment of work consists of upgrading the existing asphalt road between Nuwaiseeb road and the STP. (8) Off-site piping, this segment of work consists of construction of about 1500 meters of 1-0 600mm, 2-0 500mm, 1-0250 mm & 1-0200mm ductile iron parallel force mains along the access road.
